  • When gold is extracted, how is cyanide consumed?

    Time: 2023-02-10 Source: Writer:
Cyanide (commonly referred to as sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide) is a chemical product, mainly used in gold production and electroplating industries, resulting in a large amount of toxic cyanide-containing wastewater in these industries; at the same time, most gold ores are associated with Silver, copper, lead, zinc, sulfur and other valuable elements, however, many gold mining companies often only focus on the recovery of gold, and the recovery rate of associated elements is generally low, resulting in waste of resources. In addition, cyanide is widely used in metallurgy, electroplating, printing and dyeing, daily chemical industry and agriculture. Cyanide exists widely in various organisms, including photosynthetic bacteria, algal plants and animals, and more cyanide comes from human production activities, such as electroplating, smelting, printing and dyeing wastewater, leachate from garbage factories, cyano-containing chemicals, etc. From the perspective of environmental engineering and biosafety, great attention should be paid to the detoxification and treatment of cyanide-containing wastewater.

Consumption of cyanide in production consists mainly of the following aspects:
① Mechanical consumption, such as running, running, etc.
② When the pH value in the slurry is too low, HCN is generated and lost.
③ Thiosulfate is formed. When there is a large amount of S2- in the pulp, it is easy to form CNS-.
④ Generate metal complexes, such as forming complexes with Cu2S, ZnS, FeS, etc. in minerals. Every gram of copper, zinc and iron consumes 2. 7, 3. 0 and 5. 26 g of sodium cyanide respectively.
⑤ The silicate colloid or silicon oxide in the pulp absorbs cyanide.
